How do I Replace Rear Brake Pads on a 2007 Saturn Aura XE?

The 2007 Saturn Aura XE is a five-passenger sedan equipped with four-wheel disc brakes. The disc brake system consists of the hydraulics, brake calipers, brake pads and rotors. When you step on the brake pedal, the hydraulics close the brake calipers, which compresses the pads against the rotors. Since the rotors mount to the hubs, this brings the Saturn to a halt. Eventually, however, this action will wear out the brake pads, and you'll need to replace them. If you have basic automotive repair skill, you can accomplish this job in about two hours.

Things You'll Need:
2 wheel chocks
Lug wrench
Floor jack
2 jack stands
Drip pan
Brake clean
Socket set
White lithium grease
Caliper piston tool
Replace Rear Brake Pads is challenge:
1.Set one wheel chock behind the right-front tire and one chock in front of it to prevent your Saturn from moving.

2.Loosen all the rear lug nuts with the lug wrench. Make sure they're loose enough to remove by hand later on.

3.Roll the floor jack under the rear end and lift the Saturn with it. Support the rear on the jack stands, then remove the lug nuts and wheels by hand.

4.Slide the drip pan under the left rear brake assembly and rinse off all the brake dust with the brake cleaner.

5.Unbolt the brake caliper using the socket set, then lift the caliper out of the caliper mount. Remove the old brake pads by hand.

6.Rinse the brake dust out of the caliper using the brake cleaner. Lubricate the caliper slide pins with white lithium grease to prevent them from seizing.

7.Retract the caliper pistons with the caliper tool, then insert the new brake pads by hand.

8.Lower the caliper back into the caliper mount and bolt it in place with the socket set.

9.Repeat steps four through eight on the right rear.

10.Reinstall the rear wheels and lug nuts.

11.Lower the Saturn off the jack stands, then tighten the rear lug nuts to 85 ft.-lbs. using the torque wrench.
